Nelly – Hot in herre (sic)

Here Nelly demonstrates a typical rapper pose, managing to look aggressive while displaying the jewellery at the same time. Baseball cap, shades and sport shirt are all present and correct, indeed it would be hard to find a more typical example of the genre than this – it’s almost iconic in its perfection.
Did I say iconic? Now there’s a thought – perhaps that’s what this poster’s all about, trying to make Nelly look like the ultimate rapper rather than making him slightly different as a lot of the other rap images try to do. He’s almost putting his hand out for you to kiss it, priest style. As is often the case, the viewer is at a lower angle, giving Nelly the dominant position as he delivers his rap, in this case his latest single.
Does the perfect rap icon make for the perfect rapper? That, as usual, is ultimately up to the public to decide when they purchase, or don’t purchase the music. This poster’s doing its utmost to convince you that he’s the genuine article though and that you’ve just got to have his new record. And that it’s you that’s been spelling the word ‘here’ wrong all your life. ‘Herre’ is much cooler - Nelly says so.
