Metallica – I’m Inside I’m You

Jokes about head-banging aside, skulls are not an uncommon feature in metal posters. Here we have a rather large and strangely shaped one dominating this Metallica poster.
The Metallica logo features at the top, giving instant identification for the fans and asserting the Metallica brand. On the skull are the words, 'I'm Inside I'm You' - what exactly does this mean? The suggestion is that once they're inside your head they become you, they take you over. Given the renowned volume of metal, this may not be an unreasonable claim.
The skull itself, as I've said, is a repeatedly used image with metal bands. Dark images are often used to suggest power and energy and associations with dark forces sometimes deliberately played up - often way over the top - to reinforce the macho image so beloved by many of the lead singers of this music genre. They're all really big softies at heart, of course.
